Goo Goo Dolls played the Ohio State Fair in Columbus thursday night.  The
first opening band Guffs stole their look, if not their sound, from Bush.
The best song they played wasnt even their own, it was a cover of "Come
Together" by The Beatles.  The second opening band, I liked even less.
Howlin' Maggie.  The singer looked like Dave Matthews and tried to act like
Ahmet Zappa.  I just didnt like them at all.    The great Goo Goo Dolls
opened the show with "Naked" and played every song on A Boy Named Goo except
for tracks 9 and 10.  From Superstar Carwash, they played "Fallin' Down",
"Lucky Star", "We Are The Normal", "String Of Lies", and "Another Second Time
Around".  The songs that got the biggest response from the crowd were "Name"
and "Long Way Down".  They also played a Prince song (don't know what it
was), "Don't Change",  "There You Are"(?), "Million Miles Away",  and one
other song I wasnt familar with.  They sounded great.  I like Johnny's new
purple Les Paul, cool looking guitar. I also noticed he didnt have the
Epiphone acoustic guitar with stickers on it, I wonder what happend to it.
It was a great performance from Johnny, Robby and Mike.  Even better than
the last time I saw them.
