Ogden Theater

Denver, Colorado

Review by: Michael

Well... I went to the show Tuesday night here in Denver, CO. After seeing the Goos over 20 times in the last 10 years, I was a bit disappointed by last nights show.

The main problem was the audience... I probably should have had a clue while waiting for the doors to open... While waiting around, Mike walked down the street to survey the crowd and not a single person even knew who the hell he was!

The Goos opened with Dizzy and the crowd didn't even move. "Long Way Down"...maybe a little hint of movement... Then, finally, when the opening notes of Slide filled the hall people began to, ever so slightly, move to the music. Other than during "Slide", "Name" and "Iris" though there was nothing... Audience members spent more time talking during the other songs than listening!

As soon as "Iris" was finished, 1/4 of the audience left...WTF!??!

The Goos were spectacular as usual. This time around they actually have an impressive light show to boot!!! I have seen them play live many times, and am seriously impressed at how they have improved as musicians without losing any of the energy of the old days. Last night was one of the most lively Goo performances I have ever seen and that means a lot here in Denver where the air is thin and most bands peter out after 5 or 6 songs...

Last night though the dead audience greatly detracted from the show.

I also have some reservations about the additional touring members... Although Nathan and Dave add much to the Goos live sound, I think they still excell as a three piece. Maybe it is just a cooincidence, but the two songs they played as a three piece "There you are" and "Hold me Up" were, by far, the highlight of the show both in band enthusiasm and sound...

Anywayz, others may disagree with me but, as far as I am concerned, the changing demographics of the Dolls' audience has really detracted from the concert going experience. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the Goos should go back to playing in front of 25 people, but I definitely enjoyed the shows more when the audience was there for more than 3 songs...
