Subject: When I accepted Goo into my life
Hey hi,
The first I ever saw/heard of the goos was like '90 maybe. Whenever Hold Me Up
came out. I have to thank MTV (groan) I guess since that's where I saw the 'there you are' video on 120 mins. or whatever they were calling their
alternative show then. I only saw it that one time, but I thought they looked
like the greatest band. Running around having a hell of a good time all over
Buffalo (I assume). Finding myself basically cable-less for most of the time
after that, It turns out that that's the only goo video I've ever seen. Yep,
I'm blissfully ignorant of the 'Name' video. Not only that, but after years
of trying I've only seen them live once. I've been the victim of cancelled
shows and living on the scarcely-goo-visited west coast. Weep for me.

Well, hi first of all, cuz this is my first post.
I was introduced to the goos with that "pretty song" "name"... before it
became so big that they played it on my parents' station though. They played
them on a new music preview on my radio just as I was about to turn the darn
thing off. It was early enough that when I told my friends about the GGD,
they had no idea as to who I was referring to. I should briefly mention that
"name" is a spiffy song to listen to while doing homework, and especially
for poetry or stories. Hey, it earned me an A+! .

>mail bag everyday.
see, that does sound like a nifty prospect. so i have another topic y'all
could share too... do any of the goo songs have special meanings for you?
like when you're cat died or you met your significant other?
"So Long" would be that song for me... becuz it was playing in the
background when I met the nicest people on earth:) Okay. I'm done. But I
like mail. Hint. Hint. Hint.
Ooh ooh, and I have a question or two...
Anyone ever spotted goo posters anywhere? Or t-shirts?
merci:)
nica.
p.s. all you people out there who post already... keep up the good work!

a great suggestion from mike pawlik!
as creator and maintainer of "Superstar Webpage", perhaps i should
share my little story with you. also, if anyone hasn't seen the survey
(actually, it's more like a guestbook) there, then please, complete it,
there is a question about your first goo experience.
here's my story:
way back in 1989, struggling to deal with the pressures of an 8th grade
private school loser, i was fed up with the standard top 40 bullshit
that saturated the airwaves for too long. one hit wonders, like t'pau
and johnny hates jazz were pissing me off to the point where i was
almost sick of music completely. music was my life. it was all i had
ever since i was a quiet, introverted little boy. if i abandoned
music altogether, i would be nothing. so i turned to a local station,
91.3 WBNY for a retreat from the norm. there, i found a new life, a
new aspect of music, something no one else my age could touch:
UNDERGROUND MUSIC.
91.3 is "Buffalo's original alternative" based out of Buff state. the
music was deliciously hard and ferocious. it had no limitations, no
reason to conform; this the music i had been searching for. it was here
that i got my first taste of, now almost obscure, punk and hardcore
bands like minor threat and eventually goo goo dolls. i popped in a
blank tape and recorded everything they played, having no idea who the
band was. excpet for when they played a double shot of goo goo dolls. i
didn't hit the stop button in time, so i caught the dj
saying "goo goo d..". those double shot songs in question were "no way out"
and "road to salinas". it took we a couple years to finally figure that
out, but i was an instant fan. 91.3, and especially the goos, changed
my life forever.
this is why i have created "Superstar Webpage". it's my way of saying,
"thanks guys for the great music.
hope you all found that very touching.

Well seeing as I run the list and a web page, I suppose I should
answer Mike's question about first hearing the Goos....
Being from the Buffalo area, I first heard of the goos by a friend of
mine. He was friends with them, and told me about them right around the
Jed album. So the next time I was out, I saw the Jed Cassette in Crazy
Charlie's in Niagara Falls. I listened to it, and at first didn't really
like it that much, but the more I listened to it, it grew on me. The next
goo album I got was Superstar Car Wash when it first came out. Then I
heard "There You are", and I was hooked, so then I went back and got Hold
Me Up. Then A year later or so, I got the very first one Goo Goo Dolls.
Of course as soon as A Boy came out, I was there at 10:00am to get it.
Been hooked since.

Hmmmm, that would be when I was living in England, watching "noisy mothers",
the only rock tv show in the country and it came on at 4 in the morning!
Anyway, they played "the only one" and a old black and white video of a song
i cant remember. Then they did an interview with johnny and robby in a
hotel room and they looked totally stoned!! Anyway, I was Sooooo impressed
with the music, I went out and bought a boy named goo! and then superstar
and then hold me up....etc!
Goo bye

I was a junior in High School. A while later I was listening to WCVF,
Fredonia States radio station, and they played all of Superstar Carwash,
uninterrupted. I immediately went out and bought it, and the rest is
GOOstory or something like that.

I first heard of them in an advertisement almost a year ago in a CD club
brochure. They had an ad for A Boy Named Goo, and it sounded interesting,
so I ordered the CD. Turned out to be the best new music I've heard in
several years.
I used to live in LA, and I also used to be a professional guitarist. Now
that I'm in Portland, Oregon (for the last 8 years) I don't really have a lot
of opportunity to keep up with what's new & good in music. In LA you're
surrounded by the entertainment industry; up here, you hardly hear anything.
(But I *do* love Portland, particularly the whitewater kayaking thereof).
For quite a while I assumed they were a "new" band, and I was rather shocked
to find out they'd been around for nearly 10 years and have 5 full-length CDs.
By the way, I just got the German single in the mail yesterday; Name sounds a
lot like Name (yawn), but the other two songs are excellent. I can hardly
wait for a new full CD.

I first knew of Johnny Reznik back in 1985-86 when I went to Buff State.
He went to school there and hung out with the "punk rock crowd". I remember he
had a cute girlfriend. I believe he used to be in a punk band called the
Beaumonts in the early '80's. I worked at WBNY and we had a tune by the
Beaumonts, very Black Flag/Husker Du/Minutemen influenced. I left Buffalo in
1986 and in '87 or so saw the Goo's first gig in NYC at a CBGB hardcore punk
matinee. They kicked ass while all the skinheads hung out outside. I knew
their old manager, Artie Kwitchoff and label guy from Mercenary/Celluloid Dean
Brownrout.
I've been a fan since '87 and ever since.
They are a great fuckin' band! One of my favorites.

I first heard of the Goo's on a local radio station when they played
"Don't Fear the Reaper". They never played much of them afterwards
until recently with ABNG. These radio stations suck when they only
play stuff when everybody in the world wants to hear it. Then, when
a song becomes really popular, they play it until your ears bleed.
(My ears never bled though, I loved it everytime that I heard NAME).
But, all is history, 'cause after 2 months of requesting NAKED, my
hometown radio station finally played it. Talk about slow!!! They
aren't playing it that much now though. Oh well.

Hello everyone. I first heard of the goo Goo Dolls in October of
'92. I was dating a guy who worked at a record store. I was into
music like Guns-n-Roses. He made me a tape of "alternative' music.
My favorite was "Somebody to Shove" by Soul Asylum. I listened to
that tape a lot and really started to get into that type of music.
But the problem was that he did not label anything on there. I got
really tired of asking what each song was titled and who it was by
so I gave up pretty fast. There are still a couple of unidentified
songs on there. Anyway, back to the point. I was up late watching
120 minutes one Sunday and the Goo Goo Dolls were on there. There
was about a one minute interview and they played the video for
"There You Are". I was excited...I had just identified another
song from that tape. I went out and bought the album "Hold me up"
And have been hooked ever since. I have only seen them live 4
times. I have very briefly talk to them. Very nervously.
I have been trying to get a descent bootleg collection going. I
have 5 different ones. Two from '91 and three from '95. If anyone
wants to trade...let me know.
Does anyone know if there is a demo out there anywhere from them?
If so, I want it. Let me know!

I loved it the moment I heard it. I've loved them ever since. When they
came to my town with Bush and No Doubt I wanted to go, just to see them.
Like Shawn said, Name is one of those songs that you could never get tired
